This opportunity has a role requiring throwing skills - wheel helper, and a role that requires no art skills - table helper. Please don't be afraid to help at the table if you don't have art skills, we just need folks who are sociable and helpful to make this run!

The Clay Studio booth at River City Roots fest is a staple to the art fair that gives a unique chance for anyone to have a guided first-try on the potter's wheel, with step-by-step advice from someone with a little experience under their belt. Proceeds from the fee to make an attempt and have a pot fired benefit the Studio's free afterschool program for local kids. 

We need folks who can help at the table (no art experience required), as well as folks who have enough wheel experience to talk a newbie through a super simple pot, or throw a super basic tandem pot with a kiddo. Training appointments will be available in July and August so throwers can feel confident!

Booth Location: 100 W Main St, near the pedestrian entrance to the parking garage

We're back at the Western Montana Fair in 2026 for a fun day of a new clay activity and sharing information about the studio! 

We're going to try something new for this outreach event! We'll have some ceramic magnets visitors will get to paint and take home with them. A special activity designed to be easy for Fair visitors to carry around. Volunteers will help visitors paint and aide us in keeping the activity area clean. It will be simple and straightforward, no art skills required! 

We also ask Volunteers to help us spread the word about Clay Studio events, programs, and services. This is super easy, as to ensure guests get accurate information, we have as much as possible available on leaflets and brochures at the booth. 

Booth Location: Fairgrounds, Commercial Building

In a brand new outreach event this year, we'll be visiting the Target Range neighborhood with some Outreach Booth fun! We'll be set up in the yard of local favorite restaurant The Trough for their Christmas in July art sale! As always, we'll bring a fun "raw" clay activity along with us to help engage local kids (and adults) and encourage people to get excited about clay!

For Christmas in July, we'll be bringing our Sprouting Sculpture activity! Where we make a tiny sculpture, decorate it with no-till seeds, and with love, patience, and daily watering, it sprouts like a biodegradable chia pet.

We also ask that volunteers help us spread the word about programs, services, and events at the Clay Studio, by encouraging booth visitors to take leaflets about the studio!
