Join Parks and Recreation and the Missoula Rose Society to prepare the Memorial Rose Garden for summer. Working with Rose Society experts, volunteers will be mulching, weeding, planting and pruning roses. Volunteers are welcome to stay for the entire event or drop by to help for a shorter period. Parks and Recreation will provide tools, gloves and refreshments. Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Local rose enthusiasts established the all-volunteer Missoula Rose Society in 1944 and have planted and maintained our community's Memorial Rose Garden since then. The Garden is part of the City’s WWII memorial and surrounds an obelisk monument listing the names of local casualties of the war. The garden has since expanded to include the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the Policemen’s Memorial, and memorials also honoring those who fought in Grenada, the Persian Gulf, and Panama.
