Make your Labor Day weekend memorable this year! Join us for a rewarding three days improving the sustainability of the trail to pristine Hauf Lake in the Bitterroot Mountains.
Volunteers will begin the project on Friday morning by hiking up the Mill Creek Trail #364 to its junction with the Hauf Lake Trail #309, where we will establish basecamp. The 2.0-mile trail to Hauf Lake features steep grades and remarkable scenery as you climb over 2000 feet in elevation. The trail has not been fully maintained in over 20 years, and our objective will be to continue reestablishing the main route as opened by our SBFC crew in 2022. The work will include brushing back overgrown vegetation, removing fallen trees, improving water drainage, and maintaining trail tread. We will pack back out to the trailhead on Sunday afternoon.
This is a moderate trip. There will be pack support provided by the US Forest Service to haul in tools, equipment, group gear, and food, however individuals will need to carry their own personal gear and items (see packing list).
